Magical Thinking In Legislative Process

Increasingly reports show members of the legislative process around the world are introducing elements of magical thinking. Strangely there is a perception that ancient beliefs are somehow superior to current, verifiable knowledge. In this case, a UK Tory MP believes that doctors could use Astrology to help treat patients and reduce pressure in the National Health Service. The MP observes that doctors “… never look at it. They are absolutely dismissive. Astrology may not be capable of passing double-blind tests but it is based on thousands of years of observation.”

How do we prevent all manner of nonsensical beliefs being introduced into our healthcare system if there is no requirement to pass a double-blind test? Additionally the MP invokes the left brain / right brain myth: “many scientists today are dismissive of right-side brain energy”.
