Fundamentalist Fred Nile holds balance of power in NSW Senate

In an update to the “Religion doesn’t hurt anyone” theme,  long term Christian Democrat leader Fred Nile now hold balance of power in the NSW Senate.

So deluded is he that he thinks his views are mainstream and wholly uncontroversial. It reminds me of his media stunt on the Derryn Hinch program where storms a record store to seize Dead Kennedys records because they have sweating on them. The magistrate decided the records did not offend community values.

Update: 7 May 2015

Nile will introduce a bill restricting abortion rights further, prohibiting an abortion where there is a “detectable heartbeat”, requiring women to be told an abortion will cause a foetus pain – in contradiction of the medical evidence – and forcing women considering an abortion “to undergo counselling and to view an ultrasound of their unborn child”.

Foetus under the age of 24 weeks do not have the brain connections to feel pain.
