The Myth of Job Creation

We have been repeatedly told that prosperity depends upon economic growth, which in turn, depends upon a wealthy class who will create jobs by spending their millions on creating new businesses, products and services to sell to the public (presumably those without money).

Along the same lines is the recurrent myth that environment degrading activities like mining creates jobs. Australia has had fairly steady and low unemployment, yet the mantra is, allow this activity, accept the damage, allow the profits to funnel to the few, because we need the jobs. See chart below.

It is about time government was performed by individuals interested in evidence of outcomes rather than those seeking continual reelection by pandering to a wealthy minority and using non-existent threats as justification.
